Uganda’s infrastructure, construction and energy sector needs keep growing due to the extremely high rate of population growth in the country. The discovery of resources like oil and gas, of which production is set to begin in 2019, has also increased the demand for all round support across various sectors including, legal services, to ensure that the gains from this discovery are ably and efficiently realized. Government, financing and donor agencies, & private investors are increasingly crafting new ways to serve both these needs and our firm has developed expertise in this area.

We provide legal services and industry insights throughout the energy sector, oil and gas sector - whether upstream or downstream, and in the procurement, engineering and construction sectors. Our diverse team of expert advises financiers, contractors and owners on Public Private Partnerships, construction, procurement, energy, oil and gas, infrastructure and other government projects, most recently on the construction of a hydro-electric plant on River Mpanga in western Uganda.

We utilise our combined skills, knowledge, and expertise in tax, financing, corporate and regulatory law and practice in providing assistance to financiers, contractors and owners in the pre-bid and contract process, from the project start, its execution/completion to final closing.

Services offered include:
Registration and advising on the most tax efficient special purpose vehicle for the contract; Contract preparation for standard form contracts and bespoke contracts: Schedule consulting; Pre-bid documentation; Contract review; Project follow up on notice requirements, documenting changes, extra costs or delays; Preparing and presenting claims; Negotiating change orders; Obtaining time extensions; and on avoiding liquidated damages during a project close out.

We utilize our combined skills, knowledge, and expertise in tax, banking and finance, commercial transactions corporate and regulatory law and practice to provide advice and assistance to financiers, contractors and owners in the pre-bid and contract process, from the project start, throughout execution and completion to the final closing out of projects.

Working together as a team we are able to advise clients in these sectors in setting up partnerships, joint ventures, or corporate branches while utilizing the most efficient tax structure.

We treat every construction contract as unique and therefore provide timely and effective advice.

Our team is skilled in ensuring that we understand risk allocation, ensuring that we advise as to whether the project is financially viable from a construction risk perspective, and ensuring that we provide you with full legal corporate, regulatory and taxation advice and support along the way.

We are always providing and learning of new developments within The International Federation of Consulting Engineers, The Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers and the Uganda Association of Project Managers.

Working with our Litigation and Dispute resolution department, we are also on hand to advise on any conflicts resulting from construction right from appearing before adjudicators, mediators, arbitration at both national and international fora and finally filing and defending suits in court.

Our approach emphasizes protecting and minimizing loss from conflict in the construction industry.
