IMPACT FINANCE, NGOs & SOCIAL ENTERPRISES


  • Advising Yunus Social Business Foundation (YSBF) Uganda on their USD 20 million fund to support social businesses in Uganda and its registration with the Capital Markets Authority of Uganda. And further facilitating the legal operationalizing of debt facilities from YSBF’s investment portfolio of up to USD 1 M extended to about 10 social businesses in Uganda. YSBF is a subsidiary to Yunus Social Business, a non-profit venture fund founded in 2011 by Noble Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus to invest in promising social businesses by providing them with patient capital as well as long term business support.
  • Assisting in the registration and establishment of the Uganda Bio Diversity Fund (UBTF) as a charitable trust. The UBTF is private sector-led conservation fund established to meet the financial gap in biodiversity resources in Uganda and aims at covering a minimum of USD 80 million over the next five years. We also act as UBTF’s legal counsel in Uganda.
  • Assisting JSI Research & Training Institute Inc. (JSI R&T) to register as a Non-governmental organization in Uganda. We are assisting them in acquiring all necessary recommendations and documentation. JSI R&T is an international non-profit corporation committed to public health consultancy and initiatives for the improvement of the health of individuals and communities. It is primarily funded by USAID.
  • Advising Millennium Promise Alliance Inc. on its corporate restructuring and its flagship program, the Millennium Villages Project in Uganda. We also assisted in the registration of Millennium Promise as a not-for-profit entity in Uganda as well as acquiring a permit to operate as such. Millennium Promise is an international not-for-profit leading organisation redefining the approach to ending extreme poverty by 2030 and reaches more than 500,000 people in over 80 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Assisting Peripheral Vision International (PVI) to register and establish a Not-for-profit local entity. We assisted the client in acquiring all necessary recommendations, documents and approvals for the same. We also successfully facilitated the organization’s registration and acquired a permit for its operations. PVI is an international 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organisation focused on innovative media strategies for social change with offices through-out East Africa. We also act as local legal counsel for PVI in Uganda.
  • Acting as legal advisor and counsel to the following: Grameen Foundation in Uganda; Wild Life Conservation Society (WCS) one of the oldest international NGO’s in Uganda with over 200 employees; and Jhpiego, an affiliate of John Hopkins University with 500 employees in Uganda.
  • Advising Great Lakes Coffee, a leading coffee exporter in Uganda, on its USD 7 million debt investment from Responsability AG.
  • Acting as legal and tax advisor to Village Enterprises, a leading social enterprise operating in Hoima and Soroti supporting rural farmers.
  • Advising Emergency Life Support for Civilian War Victims on a USD 25M construction of an orthopaedic hospital complex in Entebbe, Kampala.
  • Providing employment & human resource assistance to YSBF, War Child Canada, Grameen Foundation, WCS, Trocaire Uganda, JSI RTI and Jhpiego.
  • Providing immigration assistance to PVI, WCS, Village Enterprise and JSI RTI.
  • Providing training services to YSBF accelerator programs and programs for social enterprises by UnReasonable Africa and Pullida Uganda
  • Participating in the social enterprise ‘think-tank’ run by ANDE (Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs) alongside other key business consultancy firms and social entrepreneurs.
